Great team performance as the 4th XI pick up a clean win over Lindow.

A warm day at Didsbury greeted the 4s as they welcomed Lindow to Wilmslow Road. The 4s captain very rarely completes the toss with an opposition captain younger than him, but Lindow's captain was only 16, and perhaps youthful naivety meant that he won the toss and put us in; something the 4s were very happy to hear.

The 4s began the innings with Mike Renison and Dev Meena, but Mike would depart quickly, smashing one to cover, to which the fielder clung on with fingertips high above his head. Raheem Tariq joined Dev and the pair batted well, Raheem playing some classy shots before confusion between the two caused Raheem to be run out. At 34-2, some rebuilding was required... Batman & Robin, Starsky & Hutch, Bert & Ernie, there are lots of dynamic duos but the 4s have ever-brilliant Turner & Meena. Evan joined Dev, and the pair would put on a batting masterclass. Dev's wristy sweeps and pulls paired beautifully with Evan's powerful drives and exquisite clips gave the audience great entertainment. Dev would pass 50, carefully managed to get us out of a tricky spot, and then took advantage of the change of bowlers. Evan, who batted with his usual exuberance also went past 50, his first in senior cricket for Didsbury. Knuckling down on a hot day, Evan smartly knocked the ball around to the spread field, taking the easy runs when they came, and pouncing on anything loose. The two would reach an 107 partnership, Dev 48 off 58 and Evan 51 off 54, but sadly the show would end as Dev was bowled for 64. Evan would bat on, joined briefly by Shaad Shibly who looked to end our innings with a bang, and then LJ Grimbaldeston who followed suit. Evan and LJ would put 40 on together at a rapid pace, before Evan fell for 80 off 79. A brilliant innings. LJ carried on launching boundaries and pushing quick runs as he reached 33 off just 17. Just what the team needed, something LJ often selflessly provides. He was unfortunately run out on the last ball by the captain, as he tried to squeeze out every run possible. (Sorry LJ!) 220 the total to defend.

The 4s bowling and fielding has been outstanding all season and this game was no different. Started perfectly by Ben Lowe and CB Singh, Lindow were quickly 43-4. The pair finding swing with the new ball targeted the stumps and found reward, taking two each. Seb Byrne, on the back of his four wickets last week carried on where he left off, taking two quick wickets. The captain, Jack Prince, struck with his first ball, the batsman foolishly playing for spin where none ever exists, a sharp catch by Dev at first slip. Harri Aggarwal would replace Jack after a short spell, and showed what an exciting talent he is. He had been outstanding in the field all day, and his bowling followed it up, and was very unlucky to not pick up a wicket. Shaad and Jack would finish up the innings, Shaad taking two and Mike picking up a run out. Lindow 113 all out.

Another superb performance from the team. Juniors and seniors both contributing to a clean win. Immensely proud, as always, of the attitude and camaraderie of the team who make every Sunday a pleasure to be a part of. Good news from Poynton where NE Cheshire were beaten by Bramhall means that the 4s are now two wins clear at the top with only a few weekends to go. The 4s are away at Elworth next week.
