Learning Resources
Following a number of requests from the players regarding laws of the game, fielding positions etc, we have decided to set up a list of links and files that can be referred to as you see fit, which will hopefully allow you to learn more about the game and also help out your captain. We will also include rules for indoor cricket, and tactical observations here.
Fielding positions: Fielding positions are decided by the team's captain, who uses their judgement of the bowler's strengths and weaknesses, the strengths and weaknesses of the batter, and the match situation, to decide how best to distribute the 9 fielders they have, apart from the bowler and wicket-keeper. Typically fielders employed on the boundary are there to prevent 4s and 6s, and the closer fielders are there to prevent the batters running singles. Please follow the link for a useful map of all fielding positions!
Umpire's signals: During the course of a match the umpire will make a number of signals to the scorers so that they know what has happened, and can keep an accurate record of the score. Please follow the link for a slideshow of all umpiring signals!
Indoor Cricket: Every other session we will be playing indoor cricket. It will be very useful as we will learn to play competitvely, to place the ball away from fielders, and most importantly to run between the wickets. Please dowload the rules of indoor cricket and familiarise yourself with them so that we may save time on a Tuesday night.
Please keep checking back for more updates, and let us know if you want to see anything else on here!
