Didsbury win by 48 runs
Didsbury 5s started their T20 Cup campaign with a win at Bredbury 2s. Taiyyib Khan starred with the bat hitting 50 with 4 sixes, whilst Andrew Jones ripped the heart out of Bredbury’s middle order taking 4-18.
Asked to bat on a slow and damp looking wicket, Didsbury opened with Hashir Khan and Viraj Ramaiya who played watchfully until he was needlessly run out for 9. JP perished first ball and with Hashir missing a straight one after hitting a run-a-ball 20, we were in a spot of trouble at 34-3. Andy Jones played watchfully and Taiyyib Khan smashed his way to a 30 ball, 50 as they put on a stand of 82 in about 10 overs. Rahmani and Mudassir sneaked a few singles which meant we posted a respectable 123 after 20 overs.
Rahmani and Andy Jones opened the bowling keeping things very tight and regularly taking wickets. Rahmani’s 3rd over was a maiden, which put the pressure on the other end and allowing Jonesy to take 2 wickets in an over to put a stop to any serious challenge.
George Brady and Hannah then took over and maintained the tight lines and despite the relaxation in fielding restrictions, we only had 2 outside the ring for the middle overs. Hannah took 2 wickets and George 1, getting due reward for creating several chances. With 4 overs left and Bredbury needing 53 with 1 wicket in hand, Harry Shaw was asked to clean up the tail. He bowled only 4 balls as their number 9 skied one which JP misjudged and appeared to be going over his head, although somehow, he stuck out one hand and was equally surprised for the ball to land in it.
Overall a great team performance and we look forward to hosting, probably Romiley 2s in the next round next week.
