Didsbury 5s progress to the 2nd round of the competition with a tidy 32 run win over Bredbury 2nds. Asked to bat on a glorious evening, Ben Anderson and JJ got off to a great start reaching 70 off the first 9 overs. Ben fell to an excellent catch at mid-wicket and JJ perished soon after to the same catcher. Trystan playing his first knock of the season looked in good touch, until he ran passed on and JP then was trapped lbw for his first duck of the season. After this wobble, Didsbury accelerated, with Sunil rotating the strike with Andy Jones and took advantage of the short boundary to good effect. Sunil was bowled which made it the first dot ball he faced and then Adnan took up the charge with Andy for us to post 157 off our 20 overs.
Our reply started well with Alex Bennet keeping it tight and Hannah struck with her very first ball. Ben rotated the bowlers effectively with Andy breaking through to take the next wicket. Bredbury then staged a significant charge on our total with a 50 partnership until a combination of a mix-up and Trystan's accurate throw from way out on the boundary meant they were 3 down. JP dropped a couple of catches and James Bidwell induced another edge which JP still didn't hang on to, but he managed to run out the striker before he regained his ground. At this stage the contest was almost over, Andy took another and Bidders was rewarded with a wicket by bowling their number 6. We kept it tight for the next few overs without leaking too many boundaries and with 37 needed off the last over, no-balls & wides aside we had won.
The next round is a home game vs Wilmslow Wayfarers 2nd XI.
