5’s lost the toss at Mere and were asked to bowl v Northwich 2’s in 23 degree April heat.
Alex Bennett and Andy Jones opened the bowling with Andy proving very economical and accurate for his 11 over stint taking 2 wickets in the process whilst Alex chipped away at the top order with 4 wickets at the other end including two caught and bowled.
Nige Bellamy replaces Alex in the 15th over and made an impact instantly with the first of his 2 wickets getting in that over getting good turn and bounce out of the wicket.
Having been 25-6 after 16, Northwich recovered slightly although never really looked like posting a big total.
Max Fisher replaced Andy and bowled quickly and threatened but two drops saw him go wicketless (although one of the drops lead to a run out)
Hannah Jones replaced Nige and harshly conceded 4 overthrows from her first ball before taking the final wicket with her second ball - Northwich 64 all out in the 29th over.
James Johnston opened with Sunil who was initially watchful before racing to 16 then playing a shot too many and finding a fielder.
JJ eased his way to 22 with a combination of straight drives and singles to rotate the strike.
Mat Laker entered the fray one down and punished the bad balls from the Northwich bowlers on his way to 25, finishing the game with a six over straight mid wicket.
Overall a strong team performance with high fielding standards despite the couple of dropped catches late in the innings which could have been more costly in other games. A strong start to the new season.
Next up away at Haslington 2s who were in our league in 2016 although we never got to play them then. (We were runners up that year to Haslington).
Dids 25 points, Northwich 1 point
