U13 boys are SMJCL Champions!

U13 boys are SMJCL Champions!

Jack Prince26 Jul - 19:15

The U13 Buffs go undefeated all season to win the SMJCL top division title. The Bulls sadly lose on the last day to miss out on second place.

After a fantastic league season for the U13 boys, it's great to announce that the Buffalo’s have won the SMJCL! Beating Timperley, Bowdon, Cheadle, and Whalley Range in Division 1 to claim the overall league winners title. They have gone completely unbeaten throughout the season, which is an amazing achievement, especially when you take into account they have been plagued with some weeks of poor availability. Thankfully some of our superstar U11s have stepped up to fill in the gaps and have been outstanding. Very well done to the team, and its down to the hard work the team have put in at training, and some amazing individual performances. Leading the way with the bat has been skipper Nate Turner, his 185 runs coming at an average of 61.67 and an blazing strike rate of 136.03. Phillip Bradley is the leading wicket taker! Competing with a very talented bowling line up, the young U12 has taken 9 wickets and the unbelievable strike rate of just 9.78!! Its no surprise that the leading the fielding leaderboard with 13 victims (5 catches, 2 runouts, and 8 stumpings) is superstar keeper Raafe Raja. A dominant season for the side, but have won crucial games, perhaps the highlight being the win vs a very strong Whalley Range team in Division One with a depleted side. A very well done to all of the Buffs players.

For the Bulls, they sadly missed out on second place, losing on the final day to a strong Bowdon side, but finish fourth in Division One. They gave the Buffs their toughest challenge, and picked up good wins vs both Timperley sides and Cheadle. It’s been a great season for them, overcoming a genuine “group of death” in the first stage in order to get into the top division. Competitive throughout, they’ve won some absolute thrillers (I'm sure the parents would've appreciated less nervy Friday evenings!!). Leading from the front, skipper Isaac Jones, is the leading run scorer. 213 runs, at an average of 33.50, and a strike rate of 98.16. Taking on the pressure of being skipper and scoring vital runs for his team, it’s been a great season for Isaac. For bowling, it’s Sumukh Munshi who has topped the charts. With 8 wickets, at an unreal average of 8.5 and a strike rate of 9.75. He bowled some of the tensest overs, having to bowl at the death in most of the close games. It’s Captain Fantastic again in the field, Isaac with nine catches to top the leaderboard. It's always an absolute pleasure to coach the Bulls, and the progression of the players and the team have been great to watch.

Very well done to both teams to have competed in the top division, and of course it’s a great achievement for the Buffs to win the league undefeated. As a coaching unit, we are very proud of the attitude and team spirit from both squads. Sadly, its the end of the league season for the U13 boys. However, it’s time for the cups! The combined strength of the Bulls and Buffs will tackle the SMJCL cup which kicks off this Friday away at South West Manchester. We’re hoping to defend the cup for the fourth consecutive year. The Bears also compete in the CHPJCL cup, and hope to repeat the success of previous years of reaching the final! Possibly even going one further this season… Loads of exciting cricket ahead for the U13 boys.
