Win/Lose Cricket is dreadful

This is the hill i will die on. Forget "Loving Husband, father. Brilliant Captain". I want "Win/Lose cricket is rubbish" on my headstone.

If you want a long discussion about why i hate win/lose cricket then bring it up anytime you see me. The short version is people think it creates more exciting games but it does the precise opposite. It creates far far more dull games. As seen in today's mauling of Romiley.

We were put in to bat on a flat pitch, rapid outfield and blazing sunshine. Wonder what their skipper was thinking as Alex Young (67 from 45!) and Ringo (48) piled on the runs in the first 15 overs.
Adam Slater (47 from 35) and Hammad Ali (36) continued the brutal assault on the Romiley bowlers dispatching them to all corners of the ground.
A huge total was on the cards especially with our explosive middle order of Mo, Enam and myself.
As i cruised to an entirely cover driven 20 from 13 balls i remembered someone said "By the way Seb Byrne can bat a bit". I am as selfless as i am modest and decided to allow Adam to give me out LBW to a ball going well down leg to allow Seb some time at the crease.
He did not disappoint at all with a hugely impressive 29 from 16 pushing us to a season equalling high of 282.

So on to the task of defending 282 in 40 overs...
Ben and Seb opened up. Ben once again hitting great lines and lengths and cleaned up their main batsman and only real hope. Seb bowled inconsistently to begin with before getting in to a really good grove and got a deserved wicket when Adam took a belting stumping standing up to him.

So Seb can bowl and he can bat, but can he throw...? A direct run out at mid-wicket a real highlight of the seasons fielding.

We then moved on to spin. At this point i must state that our king of spin is on paternity leave with the birth of his son Fletcher Boorman. I believe DB named him after the classic thief in Porridge in homage to the amount of wickets he has stolen over the years. I can only salute the honesty.

I'll start with Owen who took his first 3s wickets last week and this week was entirely unplayable. Going for 5 runs off 7 overs was incredible to watch, never lost his line or length at any point and picked up 3 hugely deserved wickets.
At the other end was Luuk Hughes. Yips, what yips? It seems all you need is your captain calling you out on the internet for all to see for you to work out how to bowl again. 4 wickets and back to the top of the leagues rankings. Mental abuse of a junior or inspirational words from the captain? Always a hard line to find but when you have a captaining record of...

Anyway a huge 200 run win secured and we remain top of the league locked with Georgians with 5 from 5. On we go!
