Heads Not Tails

10am start , green tinge to the damp wicket, dew in the air, this was a great toss to win. Unfortunately the visiting captain called correctly and Didsbury were invited to bat first.

Raheem and Seb nearly saw off the opening bowlers in very tough batting conditions, before a stunning slip catch dismissed Raheem when he was starting to look settled. Dan, having a superb start to the season with the bat, continued where he left off last week, hitting a fine 23 before driving over the top of a full length delivery. This brought Sam to the crease, looking comfortable in the middle order and played really well in trying to move the score along. Seb played a dogged innings at the other end, battling the conditions with great determination. His stay finally came to an end sacrificing himself in the search for runs. Noah finished with the best strike rate in the match - hopefully he can pick up where he left off in the next match.

By now the sun was out and the gremlins in the pitch had disappeared. The opposition batsman took the attack to Didsbury on a benign surface. Jan bowled a tidy opening over, but all the bowlers then found out that anything slightly short was punished by some excellent opposition batting. SOS George bowled calmly on his U11 debut, and instigated a brilliant run out chasing down a lost cause into the out field and firing a throw for Noah to expertly throw down the stumps. Harry and Oliver both had more joy constraining the batsmen a little by taking the pace off the ball and bowling a tighter line. Joab looked the most threatening finding the right length immediately and being rewarded with a smart caught and bowled. Once again Adam looked the tidiest keeper on the pitch even though this was a tough day to be behind the stumps.

Although the game got away from Didsbury, their collective efforts with the bat showed a marked improvement. There is plenty of talent in the team and results will start to follow from the hard work being shown at training and the great team attitude. A big thank you to Joe for super subbing and also to Chris and Colin for scoring. It was also brilliant for the team to see so many of you on the boundary edge supporting the boys.
