Didsbury U11 Lions 91/2 beat Bowdon 90/7 by 8 wickets

On a glorious hot Bank Holiday Monday, Bowdon CC won the toss and elected to bat against Didsbury Lions in a top of the table clash.

Didsbury wasted no time turning the screw, Ashden clean bowling their opener with the first ball. A Bowdon partnership of 40 steadied the nerves, albeit they were made to work very hard for their runs with a continuous wave of tight fast bowling from Ash and Milan.

New Lion Adi then took the prized wicket of their captain for 23, and after Bowdon retired their next player on 25, a steady stream of wickets ensued. A couple of overs of sublime spin from James led to a nice stumping from Freddie, which should have been the second of the innings but for the generosity of the Bowdon square leg. Luke bowled a fabulous over taking two wickets, with Evan also taking two wickets with decent pace.

A super pair of fast economical overs from Jack, interspersed with clever spin delivered by Ollie and Archie, pegged Bowdon to 90 runs when at one point they were looking to cut loose and go past the 100 mark. 90-7 from 20 leaving Didsbury with some work to do in the sun.

Openers Adi and Milan started with intent, racing to 31 within 5 overs with some harem scarem moments of scampering which had the crowd excited, before Milan fancied a swipe and was the first to fall.

Up stepped Ashden and with Adi put on another 11 before the latter was caught, departing for a well-crafted 23 on his debut. Freddie then joined Ash and between them they bludgeoned the Bowdon attack, scoring 50 runs in 38 balls including 9 fours before retiring not out. This left Luke and Zac to bring home the Didsbury Lions with 7 overs to spare.

A strong all-round performance from the Lions, with great depth in fast and spin bowling, fielding as a unit, and then finishing off with a clinical batting display.
