This was a comfortable first outing in 2017 for the Bulls against a young Sale team. Didsbury won the toss and under Max Fishers captaincy elected to bowl. Max (4-0-15-1) bowled fast back of a length then pitched one up to bowl the Sale opener; he was supported by Dan Ward (4-2-3-0) who swung it both ways without success. Henrik then came on and and produced figures of 6 for 2 which speak for themselves, bowling in tandem with Aahil (debuting for the Bulls) who picked up his first wicket of the season as did Oliver Netley. Great fielding from all but particularly Harry Maxwell. All the other bowlers supported well in what was a very encouraging opening display.
Set 70 to win Raheem Tariq and Dan Ward opened. Raheem (22 not out off 48) played himself in sensibly whilst Dan cruised to 19 off 25 before running himself out going for a cheeky one. Max came in and crashed 2 fours to finish it off.
It is hard to draw too many conclusions from such a one sided game but credit to Sale for putting a scratch team together to fill the gap left by Urmston withdrawing from the league, but well played to all. There will be tougher games ahead where misfields cost, bad balls are punished and loose shots result in an early bath so keep training hard!
Finally a big thank you to the parents for getting the boys to the ground early and giving the new streamlined Norms plenty of time to warm them up. And nice to welcome our new overseas player Jack Rudd, who looked utterly amazed that cricket is played in these conditions!
