In sunny but arctic conditions the Bulls beat a spirited SWMCC side to go two from two, a fine start to the season to match the weather.
SWMCC batted first and got off to a decent start whilst losing a wicket a piece to Max Fisher and Dan Ward. In came two gigantic players who launched into the Bulls bowlers taking advantage of a short boundary and fast outfield. And so to the ugly, our fielding and catching were well below par for u13's, the boys must work on the basics if they are to win consistently.
The bowling was mixed not helped by a vicious cross wind but once their 3 and 4 went the runs dried up thanks to some tight bowling from Harry Maxwell and Umar Din. SWMCC 108-6.
Now to the good. Dan and Max opened and it was an exceptional opening stand from two young players. Sadly the cold got to my iPad so full stats not available but Max retired on 32 (5 fours and a six) and Dan retired on 31 (4 fours and a six), plus some really sharp running. Harry M creamed two cover drives for four before being bowled before Rahim and Haider (on debut) brought us home with time to spare. Bulls 109-1.
Whaley Range next week who will be as strong and organised as ever. It is vital that we improve in the field, support our bowlers, back each other up and take our catches. A win will see us in a strong position to top the division.
Ps thanks for the jumper norms, I am not sure I would be here today without it!
