In sweltering (no joke) conditions, the Bulls took on top of the table Stretford. This was always going to be a close and niggly one between two competitive teams.
Max Fisher put in Stretford and opened the bowling with Dan, again he demonstrated the value of pitching up full, fast swing bowling taking two consecutive wickets; but early fielding let the team down. Thereafter all the first and second change bowlers (Taha, Aahil, Henrik, Umer, Raheem, Saddiq, Asim take a bow) showed their mettle, the fielding sharpened up and Stretford were in a stranglehold with only 20 from the last 7 overs. A true team effort.
DCC opened with Max and Dan who got a warm welcome from the opposition, also known as sledging. It's an unfortunate part of the game particularly at this age group. Dan hit two great fours before being bowled by a jaffa from Ibby. In came Raheem (late sub for Oliver), who played another undefeated mature, quality innings. Meanwhile Max (deemed a slogger by the opposition) hit a classy 30+. Taha came in, smoked a 4 off his first ball, out the second. But as a statement of intent it was inspirational; we weren't going to nudge to a win, we were going to smash it. In came Finn Locke who did just that.
This was a game where everyone contributed and it was a pleasure to watch.
A final note and please show this to your boys. Fielding is as important as batting or bowling, put it on the line for your team and I think you will win.
i know there are some players who haven't been mentioned so far, such is the strength of the team (but we saw that great stop from Jamie) but that's team sport, and this is a fab team and your day will come..
Aldeley Edge next week, young but talented.
