A massive improvement yesterday, not only with the weather, but with the all round performance of the Buffalos team versus Ashley.
Ashley won the toss and put themselves in to bat; Charlie Ayling opened our bowling with decent pace, but struggled with a consistent line and length. Thomas Williams came on at the other end and bowled with a little more accuracy, picking up a wicket in his 4 overs for 13 runs. First change was Harry Maxwell, who calmed things down with some excellent, accurate bowling, picking up figures of 3 overs, 2 for 13. Captain Felix Clement contributed well with his 4 overs, picking up a wicket for 14 runs, with great back up from Henrik Holm, who is quickly learning the art of leg spin bowling, creating figures of 0 for 11 of his 4.
After an inspirational team talk from the coaches at half time and a slight footwear problem, Henrik and Felix strutted out to bat. Felix got off to a flier, with Henrik playing a more cautious role. First wicket to fall was Felix after a fine knock of 21 in 21 balls, both putting on a very good opening partnership of 32 in 6 overs. Thomas Williams was first drop and he and Henrik carried on ticking the scoreboard over before Henrik was stumped going for the big one for 16. Finn Locke, 0 Ayaz Sheikh, 1, didn't trouble the scorers and Umer Din being stumped first ball, with a shot that can only be described as the " I must catch that number 42 bus!!" shot.
Henry Harper played some fantastic shots and ran well between the wickets in a very sensible innings of 14. A little slow in the middle left us 10 runs short of the target.
Great effort boys! We're definitely heading in the right direction.
