Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.
Beaten, hammered, trounced, slaughtered, pummeled, thumped; you chose.
After fighting through traffic, we all finally found the ground in the sticks outside of Macclesfield, the ground is picturesque, but as you can imagine, was very wet. Lindow put us in and the tactics discussed were for the openers, Dan Ward and Harry Maxwell, to see what the wicket is doing and to see off the openers.
We lost Dan in the 3rd over, so captain Felix Clement joined Harry and the 2 of them scored at a slow rate, but handled the bowling of a very good opening attack well. Harry got caught in the 12th over for 7 with the score on 18 and then came one of the most spectacular collapses I've ever witnessed in my 50 years of being involved with cricket. The very next ball after Harry's departure, was a wide down the leg side, Felix at the non strikers end called for a run, then changed his mind, the ball was thrown in at the stumps, it hit the keeper, who was standing back, on his foot and ricocheted on to the stumps as Henry struggled to get back. Fin Locke and Saurav Kumar went for what we used to call golden ducks, quickly followed by Chris Slim, Nathan Beaton Jones and Felix. 18 for 2 suddenly became 19 for 8. Adam Slater and Harry Morris decided to go after the spinner, but Harry forgot to put his foot back in the crease after missing a good, turning ball. Only 10 players saw us all out for 22.
One of the amazing things about this group is that they believed that they could do to Lindow, what Lindow did to them; they entered the arena with a wonderful positive attitude, but unfortunately 22 was never going to be enough to defend.
One more game to go, so let's keep going with this great attitude.
