DCC 97/3 AECC 96/7
After the much-promised rain failed to appear, the Buffaloes were ready for just their second home game of the season vs Alderley Edge Wizards. A tough defeat in their last game meant they were ready to bounce back.
A good crowd settled down to enjoy what was to be a great game - accompanied by some well-earned G&Ts from DCCs fine Gin Bar.
Alderley won the toss and elected to bat first, with a large boundary set the Buffaloes would need to stay sharp.
Alderley started well, and Didsbury were caught out in the field - the ball running through Adams gloves to give away some early byes... but they soon sharpened up and Basils bowling tempted the batsman to hit the ball straight into Aiden’s hands - great catch! 18-1.
The next wicket was some time coming and Alderley enjoyed 2 retirements. Rahul took the second and third with some sharp bowling and a wicket maiden. 85-3
Luuk, Jan and Rishi each bowled 3 decent overs and the run rate started to fall...
Wickets 4, 5, 6 and 7 followed in quick succession for just 4 runs as our spin bowlers hit mark. A splendid caught and bowled for Zohaib, a catch for Joe from Rishi’s ball, a run out thrown in from Aiden for Adam to take the bails off and a great catch from Zac from Joes first ball. With more strong bowling from George, just 8 runs from his 2 overs, Didsbury had turned a predicted 120 for Alderley into 96... definitely achievable.
After taking on plenty liquids - unusually a balmy 22 degrees at 7pm - Didsbury came out to bat... Adam and Rahul up first. Some early fast bowling was dealt with well as both boys delivered cheeky singles and good boundaries with ease, including a rather neat shot back over the bowler’s head from Adam! The boys were building a good partnership and heading for retirement until Adam was inevitably caught out for 22. DCC 40-1. Basil walked out to the middle... and promptly walked straight back after scooping his first ball for an easy catch - 40-2.
In came Rishi and he and Rahul continued to build runs until Rahul was caught - 70-3. Jan was then in to partner Rishi who soon retired on 30.
Zac and Jan then easily closed down the innings with the final 3 runs needed... taking the Buffaloes to a deserved win, with 4 overs to spare.
This was a great determined team performance, strong in the field and great batting all round.
The enthusiastic support from both parents and the senior team was most welcome - and even without the popular Boz’s burgers Friday night at DCC was the place to be!
