DCC U13 140-4, Bowden 110-9

On a lovely sunny evening at the stunning Bowden CC the under 13 Cup Team were put in to bat. The wicket looked to be doing a bit early doors and Basil Sultan and Max took a couple of overs to get its measure. They then swiftly moved through the gears taking apart a strong bowling attack for an opening stand of 81 when Max Fisher retired on 32 (6 fours and a six) quickly followed by Basil Sultan for 33 ( seven fours). Inevitably the run rate dropped off a little after that helped by an excellent spell of spin from the opposition but all contributed. Dan Ward was bowled for 5, Finn Lowe for 3. James Bidwell hit a quick 17 before top edging one looking for quick runs and Harry Maxwell didn't hang about with 5 off 5 perishing to a good catch. The inning was closed by Chris Slim who smashed his first ball for 4 and Noah Brown who did the same to the last ball of the innings.

140-4 was a good total but very gettable with a short boundary and quickish outfield, by this strong Bowen batting line up. James and Basil opened the bowling and a tight first 5 overs saw Bowden struggling to 11-1, their opener falling to an excellent run out with a good pick up and throw from Qasim. Dan Ward and Max were first change and Dan took his first hat trick in his first over. The first two wickets were down to excellent catching by Noah Brown and Basil but the third, as his Captain correctly kept the field set, pinned back off stump. Mobbed by his mates and delighted.

The sudden loss of their middle order was a blow to Bowden but they were down but not out. However every time they counter attacked they were pegged back by a wicket. 2 to Max Fisher, another excellent run out from Harry Maxwell and one to Chris Slim. Nazia and Qasim bowled well without success.

Bowden finished on 110-9. So great batting and bowling but what won this match for us was a fantastic 11 man performance in the field, taking our catches and removing quality players to run outs; and lets not forget our keeper Ben Renison who had a good day behind the sticks, this was a step up in intensity and he dealt with it well. Well done boys.
