DCC beat Brooklands by 6 runs

After winning their first fixture the U12s were through quarter final of the Pairs Cup. A combined Bulls and Buffalos team were determined to beat Brooklands to make it to the semis.
The scene was set, with the scorching sunshine sending spectators seeking shade and parent lathering the sun cream on the boys.
Didsbury won the toss and elected to field first.... but fielding was poor in the first few overs, a sloppy perfromace all round, dropped catches, balls running through the keepers gloves, boundaries let through and more wides than we have seen for some time. But after a mid innings drinks break the team seemed to wake up and we began to enjoy some good cricket - Rehan taking 3 wickets, Ben taking 2 and 1 each for Sam, Luuk and Will. Brooklands ended their innings on 284 off the 16 overs (25 courtesy of extras)
After a short break and plenty of fluids Didsbury came out, knowing they needed to work hard for runs to win, and they started well. Rehan and Will were the first pair... both hitting some good boundaries and Rahan a trademark 6 almost onto the road! Rahan finished on 22 and Will on 16 - just the start we needed. Joe and Luuk in next had a more cautious innings - but still posted a positive score with 13 between them. Adam and Sam in next, Didsbury knew they needed this pair to hit big. Adam and Sam worked well together, Sam allowing Adam to take the strike and hit four 4,s and one 6 to get to a total of 31. A great captains innings Adam (just about making up for his ‘bad day at the office’ behind the stumps!)
The scores were tied and George and Ben just needed to keep it steady... and they did just that, keeping their nerve and despite losing a couple of wickets, brought Didsbury home for the victory on 290.
Pairs is a hugely tactical game, with only 8 players to cover the field the captain and bowlers have to be intelligent in their positioning... the captain has to select the right batting pairing and order. As a club we want our young captains to learn from these experiences and Adam will certainly do that, the fielding could have been sharper, but the batting was spot on. Well done boys - Bowden or Sale in the next round.
