Didsbury U11 Tigers keep on ROARING!

View from the Boundary

Sunday 23 May 2021- U11 Tigers beat U11 Whalley Range CC by 89 Runs

The late-night change of venue did nothing to interrupt the steam roller that is the Didsbury U11 Tigers in 2021. They arrived focused and ‘roaring’ to go at Whalley Range CC.

Whaley Range won the toss and chose to field, letting Didsbury set a total for the first time this season!

Charlie and James opened the batting, the latter in no mood to mess around! James (26 off 16) hit 5 sublime 4s, 3 in 3 balls in the first over as a real sign of intent. He was back in the shed during the 5th over retired in double time!

Raees was in at 3 and the run rate ticked over nicely until the 7th over when Charlie (9 off 26) was well caught playing a decent shot (40-1). Kush joined Raees in the middle and the quick scoring continued. He retired at the end of the 13th over with figures of 27 off 18 with 3 4s. Adam took over and again scored quickly eventually reaching 26 off 27 with 5 4s. In the meantime, Raees had moved confidently to 15 off 30 when he was retired, by Rab, with 2 overs to go.

So, with 2 overs left and the score on 109/1, Calum and Adam were in. Calum unfortunately did not last long (2 off 3) as he was bowled in the final over. Alfie (1 off 1) faced 1 ball before Adam finished the innings with a crunching 4. 121/2 was the total set and looked impressive on this damp pitch. Time for a bowl!

Adam opened the bowling, but it was Charlie with the first break through in the second over clean bowling Ramilee Cabral (1/1). Kush then ran out Dylan Riley off Alfie’s bowling in the 3rd over (1/2). A few tight overs followed including maidens from Dylan, Alfie and Elliot before Isaac struck in the 9th, bowling Seth Jones (8/3). Calum came on to bowl in the 12th and took 2 wickets clean bowling Lakhan Kapoor and Raphael Leyland (17/4&5). Tight overs followed from James, Raees and Adam with a maiden from Charlie in the 15th. Raees then took the 6th wicket in the 17th over bowling Fred South (23/6) who had stuck around for 38 balls. James, Calum and Kush bowled the final overs without any wickets leaving Whalley Range on 32/6, 89 runs behind.

Notable performances with the ball from Charlie, Alfie and Elliot all of whom bowled 2 maiden overs, the team bowling 10 in total! Calum taking 2 wickets in an over as well. With the bat James, Kush and Adam all carried theirs with a total of 13 4s between them.

My man of the match however goes to Raees who put in a solid batting performance (15 off 30) rotating the strike well and protecting his wicket. He also took the wicket of Fred South (8 off 38) one of Whalley Ranges better performers.

Great performance all round – Well done Boys!
