DCC 81-8, Glodwick 82-1 off 10

Glodwick away again for quarter final of the Lancashire Cup who we lost to at the same stage last year and were looking for a bit of payback. Although the under 13s were victorious here in the same year so maybe it was Glodwick after revenge.

Home advantage is always good but never more so than at the steeply sloping Glodwick ground; over the years they have become masters at using the slope to their advantage with the bowlers adjusting their line and length accordingly.

DCC won the toss and elected to bat and got off to a very positive start against the Glodwick pacemen with both Max and Basil going well. However the expected switch to spin brought immediate success and Max (11) was back in the pavilion. Basil and Dan then continued with a little more circumspection against a twin spin attack that was extremely accurate and used the slope with great skill. Basil finally fell for 29 LBW (their ump couldn't give it fast enough!) and then Dan was stumped shortly after also for 11. At 58 for 3 off 10 we were already a bit below par but then really struggled against the suffocating spin and super tight fielding and finished with 81-8.

We opened with Basil and Max with a plan to bowl them through in the hope of clearing out their top order but it was Glodwick who got off to a flyer taking 40 off the first 4 overs; the rest as they say, is history.

Glodwick fielded, batted and bowled better on the day and thoroughly deserved their win. Our boys never gave up but in truth never found an answer to their spinners or a way of regularly scoring against quality accurate bowling.

It is worth mentioning in mitigation that this season has seen the U15s without James and Qasim (which would hurt any team) and consequently have looked a little underpowered in both batting and bowling.

Bad week all round as we also went out of the SMJCL Cup on a coin toss!
