The under 15s returned to the scene of Renison (senior) magnificent century (on Sunday for the 6s) to face what looked a strong Mersey side albeit with only 9 players. Mersey batted first but opening spells from Max and Dan produced little except dropped catches and misfields; the ghost of Didsbury fielding past truly came to haunt us. Inexplicably the basics were forgotten and fielders even forgot to change position for a left and right handed batting partnership. Chaos but let's leave it there for now.
On came Rahul and Henrik who both bowled very well and at times were unplayable, the brakes were applied and even the fielding improved with a fine catch from Oliver Netley. Mersey set us a target of 115 to win.
Fin Locke and Max Fisher opened with Fin dropping anchor whilst Max was merciless with anything loose; he duly retired on 40. Dan joined Fin and hit a quick 14 before being run out (there was some fairly average calling and running throughout our innings). But all still looked good when Finn Lowe was out with only 9 needed off the last 3 overs. Scraped 3 from the first, then a maiden (!). To cut a long story short we ended up needing 3 off the last ball. Locke duly smashed it for 4 having carried his bat. Now that's how to time an innings!
We don't seem to have a player of the match trophy, possibly melted down for the value of its precious metal, but for me it is Rahul for a truly exceptional spell.
