One of the fab things about cricket is how it can bring together different generations with a common purpose and all can contribute in different ways to the outcome. Our juniors starred with the ball. A senior pair of batters built the platform for the win, before an under 30s and under 13s combo took us took us home. Absolutely love that.

There was a degree of unfinished business against Heaton Mersey as we'd racked up our record 283 batting first at their place earlier in the season, before the rains prevented us from a sure fire win. So, as well as going for the third win on the trot, we had a point to prove on a surprisingly decent looking Playa del Flixton.

After losing the toss, we were disappointingly (and somewhat surprisingly) asked to bowl. Shame really, as we were all keen to see our u13s crew bat with lots of overs to play with.

Even so, the usual Ahmad and Amjad combo got down to their work as smoothly as ever, and soon Ahmad had his first scalp, with Nik holding onto a good catch, before Ahmad then wiping out the stumps of their No.3.

But then their proper batters turned up, and the hoped for procession thoroughly stalled, as they dealt smoothly and at times ruthlessly with the first choice Wds strike seam duo.

A bit of Helsby (snr) magic was required to break the partnership, but even after Mark had taken his own punishment from their impressive number 4. Mark, as ever, kept on coming, and got his man in the end.

Even then, they then they slowly started to rebuild again.

Time for Tanmay to show his bowling class, following impressive figures last week with Chris and the friendly team. Assertively setting out his preferred fielding positions like a seasoned pro, he set about perplexing, bamboozling and dismissing the Mersey batters with a confusing mix of off breaks, leg breaks, wrong uns and varied pace and flight.

Tanmay was simply too good for them, with his four wickets included a remarkable stretch for a C&B, sound second catch by Nik, plumb LBW and.... a really good catch by Amjad. It was simply wonderful to be there for that catch and moment of proud history, immortalised forever in Playcricket. Those playing will dine out on witnessing that moment, forever. Say no more.

But the under 13s weren't done. With Mersey giving up 6 wickets for 15 runs, Adam was given the chance to get in on the act. And duly did, bowling their number six with a little beauty his very first ball of league cricket - before doing the same to end their innings, finishing with figures of 1.2 overs, 1 maiden for 2 wickets. Blinking remarkable!

Bowlers operate in pairs, and the opening for Adam was being created by hard work at the other end and massive credit must be given. Jamie's return to the team was, as ever, emblematic of his control and extreme miserliness, shipping only 5 runs from 4 very tight and threatening, but regrettably unrewarded overs.

Chasing 128, with the batting at our disposal, should have been a breeze, and it was great to see Doc and Ankur giving no quarter to some inconsistent Mersey bowling. Great to see the Doc back in the runs, with his trademark cut in glorious use, and Ankur also showing that with additional time in the middle, he has the technique and power to be an aggressive Bazball style opener.

In no time at all, they had a 50 partnership, and when Doc chopped on and Tanmay strode to the wicket, the river was run for Mersey.

Or was it?

Tanmay built a technically perfect and stylish innings, but despite finding the inner ring difficult to pierce at times, batted with patience well beyond his years. At the other end, Will Kerswell showed why he usually plays higher, with a swashbuckling 24 to take the game away from Mersey.

As we neared their total, a clatter of quick wickets caused a bit of padding up panic, but there was no need to worry. Ahmad Butt, a man who only deals in boundaries, knew what needed to be done with 4 to win.

Ball one. Swing. Miss. Ball two. Swing. Miss. Ball three. Swing. Boundary. Job done. Wanderers win. Go home.

Despite several super performances across the team, the team were unanimous that Tanmay was our Wanderer of the Week for his brilliant 4-for and technically beautiful 17 runs. Congratulations buddy!
